If you’re preparing for your first flying trapeze session, one of the most common questions is: what to wear to flying trapeze?
The good news is you don’t need any specialist equipment—just comfortable, practical clothing that allows you to move freely and safely during your session. At Above and Beyond Circus, our Bristol flying trapeze classes are designed for beginners, so getting dressed for your session is simple.
The Best Clothing for Flying Trapeze
For your session, we recommend:
- Fitted t-shirts or long-sleeve tops
- Leggings, joggers, or flexible sportswear
- Comfortable clothing that won’t ride up or get caught
Avoid anything too loose, as it can interfere with the harness or movement on the bar.

What About Footwear?
For the actual Flying Trapeze part you’ll be wearing socks or barefeet!
We recommend trainers for our warm ups and socks you don’t mind getting dirty. All our classes take place outside and whilst we do our best to provide tarps to keep your feet clean and dry we can’t guarantee you won’t get a few grass stains!
What Not to Wear
To stay safe and comfortable, avoid:
- Loose scarves or flowing clothing
- Jewellery (rings, necklaces, large earrings)
- Clothing with zips or hard edges
These can get in the way or cause discomfort while in the safety belt.

Dressing for the Weather
Flying trapeze is often outdoors, so consider:
- Layers for cooler days
- Breathable fabrics for warmer weather
- Sun hats and sunglasses for bright days (take them off when you fly!)
- Raincoats for showers
You’ll warm up quickly once you start moving, so flexibility is key.
