Swinging Aerial Intensive Day

Ready to take on a new challenge this summer? The Swinging Aerial Intensive is a day focussed on the swinging disciplines of Swinging Trapeze and Cloud Swing.

Whether you are being introduced to these skills for the first time or developing your existing practice, this dedicated time will be an exciting challenge.

What to Expect

You will be taught by a team of tutors who specialise in Cloud Swing and Swinging Trapeze. They will support you through the process and give targeted feedback.

We will begin with a warm up and go through conditioning drills and exercises targeting muscle groups and skills used in swinging.

We will then divide into two groups and you will do one skill in the morning and the second in the afternoon.

The day is limited to only 8 spaces so that every student gets a good amount of focussed 1 to 1 tutoring on each piece of equipment!

For aerialists looking for the thrill of a new fun challenge!

Who Is It For?

This course is for adults 16+.

Swinging is an advanced aerial discipline and unlike flying trapeze is not suitable for beginners.

In order to properly benefit from the sessions you need to have some experience of aerial training (this could be static or flying). We recommend at least 6 months to a year of aerial training. You should be comfortable with inverting from a hanging position and be able to confidently climb a rope.

You do not need to have tried swinging disciplines before, this is suitable for people trying swinging for the first time or people wanting to build on the skills that they already have, as we will tailor the session to your personal progression.

Our goal is to ensure everyone leaves feeling like they’ve achieved something amazing – this day is about challenge without pressure.

What is Swinging Trapeze & Cloud Swing?

Swinging Trapeze is not Flying Trapeze, it is where someone performs tricks on a trapeze swinging in a forward–backward motion. The performer builds up swing from a still position, and uses the momentum of the swing to execute the tricks. Cloud Swing is very similar except you are swinging on a rope rather than a trapeze! There is no net underneath you, you will be in lines and climb up to the equipment using a rope, from the ground.

Due to the scale and size of swinging disciplines, it can be harder to find opportunities to train them. This is a unique opportunity to spend the day really zoning in on the mechanics of these skills and exploring what you enjoy about them.

This is aimed at static aerialist looking to take your skills to new heights or frequent flyers who want to see how it compares and take on a new challenge.

We look forward to swinging with you!

Frequently asked questions – Swinging Aerial Intensive

What should I wear and bring?

Clothing which is comfortable and not restrictive to move in, with backs of the knees covered and protected. (Leggings recommended) Extra layers for protection and warmth.

Hair tied back and no jewellery

A water bottle and packed lunch (The White Elephant cafe nearby will be open)

A notebook if you would like to journal your learning

If you have trapeze boots/gators please bring them (this is not expected)

Is it safe?

Yes. When swinging you will wear a belt and be clipped into safety lines at all times. These lines are held by our instructors and you are also tied off to a back up bungee pack. Our staff are trained in these skills and our equipment is checked. There is always a possibility of injury as with all exercise but we do everything we can to minimise the likelihood.

What happens if I am nervous or unsure?

Our instructors will support you in working through fears, adapt the tasks to help you feel comfortable and never make you do anything. It’s also very normal to be nervous so you won’t be alone!

How much teaching time will I get?

We will do group warm ups and cool downs, with focussed drills and conditioning. You will then get approximately half an hour of focussed tutoring on each discipline. There is also a huge benefit in watching each other’s turns and learning through observation.

Can I just do one of the disciplines?

The way we have formatted the day means it is designed for everyone to do one session of swinging trapeze and one of cloud swing. You could choose to opt out of one session but we can’t offer a reduced price. We would encourage you to try both as they can inform each other and offer different advantages.
